Gynostemma pentaphyllum extract is more than 50 kinds of gypenosides isolated from Gynostemma pentaphyllum. Like ginsenosides, it belongs to tetracyclic triterpenoid saponins. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that Gynostemma pentaphyllum tastes bitter and cold, and has the functions of clearing heat and detoxifying, tonifying qi, relieving cough, and eliminating phlegm.

More than 50 kinds of gypenosides were isolated from Gynostemma pentaphyllum, which, like ginsenosides, belong to the tetracyclic triterpenoid saponins. Among them, gypenosides III, IV, VII, XII are the same substance as ginsenosides Rb1, Rb3, Rd, F2, respectively. Gypenosides V-AH are the same as ginsenosides Rg3, and gypenosides I are enzymatically decomposed to ginsenoside K. Ginsenoside K is obtained from pharmacological and clinical decomposition.
